Dit Da Jao - A Chinese Topical Pain-Reliever
Dit Da Jow (also spelled Dit Da Jao, Dit Da Jiao) is a pain-relieving herbal extract traditionally used in martial arts to aid the recovery of traumatic injury. This includes bruising, swelling, fractures, sore joints, muscle aches, inflamed or torn ligaments, and even broken bones. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners often use a type of Dit Da Jow in practice to cool inflammation and stimulate circulation to relieve pain and speed healing. Nowadays, this topical herbal salve can be used for similar ailments. I created this product because of recent knee injuries that greatly impaired my ability to move around. These herbs are extracted in organic extra virgin olive oil and include Comfrey root, White Willow Bark, Arnica Flowers, San Qi Ginseng, Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum root), Dang Gui root, Safflower Petals, Cinnamon bark, and Myrrh resin.
Comfrey root is a cell-growth stimulant and aids in speedy tissue repair. It is best used on closed wounds. White Willow Bark is where over-the-counter aspirin originated from, and like aspirin, it has an anti-inflammatory benefit to it. Arnica flowers are well-known to aid in recovery of bruising, swelling, and traumatic injuries.
San Qi Ginseng is a peculiar herb because it has hemostatic benefits (blood-slowing) which is beneficial when an injury has too much blood pooling in one area (for example, bruising); however, it also has blood circulating properties which is necessary for relieving pain due to stagnation and lack of circulation.
Chuan Xiong, Dang Gui, Safflower Petals, Cinnamon Bark, and Myrhh resin help to invigorate the blood, also moving blood stagnation to relieve pain.
This formula is a staple in my medicine cabinet and has been used for many minor injuries.
